Writing History of Black Oil Chief, USN The book was started 26 years ago from this year of 2007. While it received favorable inputs, it was rejected several times and I shelved it. I vacated it totally for 2 years when I was in the Navy's Military Sealift Command and Desert Storm. In 2000, I trashed it all, including notes, rewrites, smooth drafts...everything. After joining Cypress Valley Bible Church, I didn't think I could do anything with it because of the profanity. And it had a lousey sex scene in it too! Seven years later, I ran across three old floppy type disks of the book, "Well, I thought, thinking that the Lord was telling me I could do something with the novel after all." The main thing I had to do was do away with all the profanity, the sex scene and reshape my characters. This took a lot of time and bookoos of rewrites. Finally, in June 2007, I felt that I now had the novel I was looking for all the time. It looked great. While I have studied the craft of fiction for years, I hope I appiled some of this knowledge in the book. But, you, the reader, decide. |
